Secretary’s Blog

Home tired but happy after what is my proudest day in eight years of being an active trades unionist.

Eight hours on the picket line flew by in a flash, each of us spurring the others on through camaraderie, positivity and determination.

The 4pm rally was perfectly timed, to reinvigorate us all just when a long day started to kick in. I was honoured to be asked to lead the rally, and made a speech I was well happy with, despite making it up off the top of my head. Wife and son arriving at 3.55pm was perfect timing an all, as was the start of the steel pan gig, the beautiful sound of those drums always easy on the ear, but perfect at the end of a long and tiring day.

The beers in the Steps tasted sweet at the end of it all, as did the bonus chicken curry that was waiting when I got home.

Love and respect to all those who stood proud today – especially those who were on the pop until silly o’clock on Thursday then put in a full stint on the line.
